The name Everest itself should be enough to describe the region, yet it is famous for more than just the highest peak of the world. The first thing you’d learn about the region, once you’re over the mountains is the airport. Tenzing-Hillary Airport, aka, Lukla Airport at the altitude of 2,860 m is regarded as one of the most dangerous airports in the world.

On the other hand, Sherpas, one of the popular climbing communities in the world also has roots mostly in the Everest region. Hence you will find various Sherpa villages and monasteries (including Tengboche, which supposedly houses a Yeti’s skull) throughout the trail. And along with the trekking region, whether to the Base Camp, further or below, the region is also home to Sagarmatha National Park, which is a treasure house for various endangered wildlife like snow leopard, red panda and maybe even Yeti.

Everest, as a whole, tops the list of many travelers, who have love for the mountains. Home to many peaks besides the highest itself, it also offers a beautiful landscape filled with dramatic glaciers and amazing terrain. A heaven for the alpine enthusiast, the region is also hailed as the key to the evolutionary history of the Earth.
